Arthur Tanner
is President and Founder of Tinmaster Inc.
Incorporated
in 1991, Tinmaster specializes in the design, fabrication
and installation of HVAC ductwork and equipment in
commercial buildings.
Arthur began
his career in 1972 as an apprentice trainee in the Sheet
Metal Workers Local No. 2 Apprenticeship Program. In 1976,
Arthur earned the status of journeyman mechanic. By 1981,
Arthur had risen to the position of foreman and was eager to
demonstrate his leadership skills. From inception, Arthur
wanted to make a difference in the sheet metal industry.
Always believing success and growth comes from hard work,
knowledge and determination, Arthur began to question what
his next challenge would be. In 1991 his question would be
answered. Arthur became a sheet metal contractor.
His focus and
approach to becoming a highly competitive contractor in the
sheet metal industry meant understanding the business and
management side of contracting. Arthur began taking courses
in accounting, marketing and business to better prepare
himself for his role as a contractor. In addition to
various college courses, Arthur attended the Sheet Metal and
Air Conditioning Contractors Association (SMACNA) Advanced
Business Management Program, the Kauffman Foundation
Entrepreneurial Graduate “Runners’ Club” Program and the
Kellogg Business Advanced Management Program.
Today, Arthur
is proud of his many accomplishments. He has received the
“Contractor of the Year Award” by the Minority Contractors
Association of Greater Kansas City, the “Minority
Construction Firm of the Year” by the Greater Kansas City
Chamber of Commerce and The Curtis A. Franklin Award for
“Outstanding Business Person of the Year” by Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity. Arthur has received the “Employer of the Year
Award” by the Interfaith Worker Justice of Kansas City
Committee and the “Supplier of the Year Award” from the Mid
America Minority Supplier Development Council. Arthur has
been featured on the cover of the Kansas City Small
Business Monthly magazine.
Arthur
appreciates the opportunity to give back to the construction
community, as well as the community in which he lives. He
has a firm commitment to the young adults of today. “The
youth of our communities are the men and women of our
future. As leaders and parents we must lead by example. We
must constantly show our love and support. We must make
every effort to insure that our youth receive the quality
education they deserve. Together we will see our communities
and this country prosper”.
